Authenticity is not something that is fun. It's not something that feels good. It's something that is vulnerable and feels as if you're exposing yourself to people who may or may not be judgmental and destructive and negative in their thinking and so it's not something we practice often.
Authenticity is something that, once it's in place and you are operating in it, puts your entire world on display. It's you refusing to hide and intentionally being the light on the hill when all of the mistakes you've made, all of the problems that may be in your life, and all of the real comes up to bear when you are authentic. Here we see in the scripture where Jesus is talking to the woman at the well and saying that worship is not a matter of law, but it's a matter of spirit and truth.
This spirit and this truth is about being right where you are and giving God everything. Worshiping him with all your heart and all your mind. In the discourse that was had with the woman at the well, Jesus was guiding her into the revelation that worship was not a matter of simply going to Jerusalem and only praying where the Jews said they could pray. Where there might have been restrictions and religious dictates about worship and about where it could happen, Jesus brought forth a change now that worship was not just restricted to a building or two where the Jews worshiped in Jerusalem but that worship went deeper now.
Worship was now a matter of being open and vulnerable and real before the Lord. This revelation brought liberty as we see in the scripture. This mighty Woman of God in the making was hiding. She was getting water in the middle of the day. She was doing a two-woman job alone and in doing this she essentially was protecting herself from criticism. She was hiding away from exposure. She was essentially just taking care of herself and her family; minding her business and going about her day when she had this encounter with Jesus Christ.

This encounter changed everything. The liberty with which she operated from the moment she left Jesus, left the water pot, and went her way, that liberty was transformational so much so that when she spoke and she said “Come and see! This man told me everything I knew about myself, is he not the Christ? “ When she said these things to those who were listening, they immediately believed. There were some who needed to see and hear Jesus for themselves but there were quite a few that believed only on her words.
When you go to John chapter 4 and you go to verse 28 through 39, you can actually read that entire passage of scripture which we're going to do now in this devotional. And it says:
28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. - John 4:28-39 KJV
Based on her words alone, the glory that she carried, and that liberty she carried in that testimony, many believed him immediately. They believed in Jesus immediately just from her words. That is the power that she was carrying. That was the power of the revelation that God brought through her in that now is the time to worship. Not to go to a place or to operate by religious dictates but to to have true liberty, to be authentic, to be real, and to be free.
This is what the world sorely needs. It is lacking. It is hard to find authenticity. More than not, you find the appearance of success, the appearance of being put together, and the appearance of perfection. But God has more. This liberty that you're walking in during this season is all about you trusting in the Lord your God. It's about the weighty Glory of God going forth over your life in a way that people literally see the real you. They see you being bold. They see you being real.
They know that you're not perfect and just based on your testimony alone they believe in Jesus. The time has come right now for you to let go, to be open, to be real, to open up, to share your testimonies, to testify the goodness of the lord in the land of the living, and to share with others about the great work that God has done. The time is now.
Closing Devotional Prayer
My prayer for you: Father in the name of Jesus, I thank you. I thank you for the shifting. I thank you God that this Mighty Woman of God is stepping fully into her God-identity. She's stepping fully into you and she is not afraid. I thank you God that the gospel of Jesus Christ is coming forth through her life so much so that she is a walking epistle that people can read and they can see the transformation.
Thank you God that people can see and they can believe. I think you that she's walking forth in more boldness, that she recognizes that this is the time to break forth, to let go of the fear, and to be all that you called her to be in an abundance of boldness and fire.
Let it fall from her God and let her voice be an activator for others God. That as she steps fully into her God-identity it blesses others to be more real too and that her authenticity becomes contagious. I thank you Lord and I pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
