Today’s Devotional Scripture: 41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. - Luke 1:41-44 KJV

The notion of family and unity has largely been replaced with the ideals of independence and self-sufficiency. Gone are the days when generations lived in one home, where grandmas were the caregivers, and children knew their families, they knew their grandparents, they knew intimately that they were not alone.
Gone are the days when we can depend on family being the village. Independence has replaced the power of connection. Isolation has become the default versus feeling as if you could just take a minute out in the yard by yourself because there’s so much family in your home. The balance has become off, and at large in society, the power of unity and family has been broken intentionally by the powers that be.
We’ve become a generation that is quick to desire independence and to have our own money and our own this and our own that, and so we’ve unintentionally forfeited the power of unity, working together, connectedness, group economics, and becoming a powerful force for change within our homes and within our communities.
It hasn’t always been this way, and it may be easy for you to remember and may be hard for you to remember based on your family, culture, and history, a time when we could wake up and go see grandma in another room or in the mother-in-law's house. Those days were full of wisdom and glory.
In this cornerstone scripture, we see the power of family very clearly. When Mary, who was newly filled with the Holy Spirit and the personhood of Jesus, goes forth to visit her cousin Elizabeth. And from the moment that Elizabeth heard Mary speak, the baby that was in Elizabeth’s womb leaped, and Elizabeth herself was filled with the Holy Ghost.
