Audio Version Of This Devotional: The Joy of The Lord Audio
In this chapter of scripture in the book of Nehemiah, we see a reading of the word by Ezra. Ezra reads the scripture and as he reads the scripture there is a weeping that comes. He reads the scripture from daybreak to noon and as he reads this word and flows through the word of the Lord the people are overcome. There is a weeping that comes, there is a flow that is present.
In answer to this, in verse 10, he said unto them: Go eat the fat, drink the sweet, send portions unto them for this day is holy and don't be sorry for the joy of the Lord is your strength. He is encouraging the listeners who have been there from the break of day to well past noon to go and be merry, to go and eat, to know that their strength is empowered by joy and this joy, this joy of the Lord is in response to scripture.
The power of it, the majesty of it, the hunger for the word. All of it contributing to joy.
Joy in the Lord.
Joy in his promises.
Joy in the sovereign God.
This world is so busy attempting to undermine and steal your joy day in and day out. It's easy to forget that God is able to restore to you all that is lost and all that has been stolen. He is able to provide divine restitution and recompense. God can do it. For those who are looking forward and wondering how and when: God knows the plans that he thinks towards you. He knows the thoughts that he thinks towards you to give you a future and a hope.
There is nothing too hard for the Lord. He is the sovereign Lord, the King of Kings. He's ruler over all of the earth and everything in it. He knows what you need. He is aware of what it is that you are struggling with and the Bible says to be careful for nothing but in all things through prayer and supplication with thanksgiving to make your request known before him.
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. - Philippians 4:6 KJV
He provides the open door of communication so that there is an issue. If there is something you need clarity on, if you need help, God brings forth help in the form of the Holy Spirit. As you pray, as you open your mouth and as you reach out to God, he draws nigh to you. This is the promise of God. So why not be full of joy? Why not be full of peace? Don't let this world rob you of your joy. This is yours. No one can take it.
This is yours. This is the joy of the Lord. This cannot be given by others and it cannot be taken away by others. This is a part of the promise of God over your life. The yes and the amen. Trust in Him. The favor of God is upon you. Walk with him. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may know what is the good, acceptable, and perfect will of the Father.
Closing Devotional Prayer
My prayer for you: Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank you. I thank you, oh God, for goodness and mercy. I thank you for the favor of God over those mighty women of God here. I thank you for this entire community. Lord, you are good in your mercy and do us forever. Lord, break away anything that's not like you.
Allow the word of the Lord to come forth in a mighty way over her life. Let every hindering wall, stronghold, and barrier come down now in the name of Jesus. For you are the Lord, our God, and besides you, God, there is no other. I thank you for the outpouring of your spirit. I thank you, Lord God, for you are God alone. I thank you for the catalyst of this day. She is up again and she is breathing again. Lord God, you've given her a sound mind this morning.
Lord, she's ready to walk forth in all that you’ve called her. I thank you, Lord, and I touch and agree with the things that she's been praying for in her life: the peace over her household. The strength in her body and her relationships and the stability in her finances.
Whatever she may be praying for, God, I touch and agree in the name of Jesus, and I pray, oh God, for the supernatural outpouring of your spirit over her. You are God in your mercy endures forever. I thank you, Lord, and I pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
