After going through the previous 12 verses of empowerment, after walking through line by line in each verse, we now see that Psalm 91 is not just a powerful scripture of protection. It is a scripture of covenant, of promise.
It is a promise. It is a recognizing from the psalmist that God is God, that he is our refuge, our fortress, that we can rest and that he will cover us under His wings. We know that even though chaos may be released in the world, in society, and in our own backyard, that it will not come near our door.
This is a promise from God. This is a declaration, a decree of his protection for each and every one of us in the times to come. Psalm 91, in this case, is extremely prophetic as far as the season that we're stepping into of war, the season of chaos, the fears that are knocking on everyone's doors and knocking on the doors of our hearts.
Above all of that, He is still God. And Psalm 91 becomes that demonstration of how He is God in our lives and how we can lean into him, to abide under the shadow of the Almighty, and to trust that he cares for us. That he will keep us through all of what is occurring in the world.
When we get to verse 13, we see that we will have power to trample upon the lion and the adder; the vicious things in the earth that tend to kill us in wilderness. God says that we will have power over that through this scripture, through Psalm 91 :13.

Now so many, when thinking of power, consider power in terms of their strength and power in terms of what they're capable of. But we rarely consider power as something that God grants us internally through the power of the Holy Spirit.
We don't think of power in the spiritual sense because the earth and the world is not cultivated and it is not rooted in the word in a way that recognizes the power of God as being able to do what you and I cannot do. The scripture that says that His grace is sufficient for us and that His power is made evident in our weaknesses, that scripture that tells us that the grace is sufficient is a little unusual to the natural man.
It would seem that that doesn't make any sense. Grace can't do that. But when we see that scripture and we see that grace and we see the apostle praying in 2 Corinthians 12:9 for God to deliver him from this thing, and he prayed three times that the Lord would deliver him from a thorn in his side.
It is God that answered and said in 2 Corinthians 12:9:
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV
To the natural man, that scripture doesn't make sense. The thought that the more weak we are, the stronger God is, or the more weak we are, the more that God shows up. That His grace is more than enough, and that God's strength is made perfect in our weakness.
These things may not make sense to the natural man, but to you and I as believers in Jesus Christ, as those who have a relationship withHhis word, and as those who are filled by His Spirit, his scripture has a whole new meaning. This scripture removes the need and the capacity for us to be perfect or to be strong. It brings in authenticity, it brings in a settledness, and it brings in our humanity.
We were never meant to be perfect. We were meant to be real and we were meant to be available for whatever God has for us. This scripture, Psalm 91:13, shows us that God will empower us according to His strength and according to His power. Not to the way the world thinks nor the power the world thinks, or the power through stuff, the power of man through money, and the power of man through his ego.
But no, as believers, we're laying down ourselves, and we're understanding in Psalm 91:13, that He is our God, that we shall tread upon the lion and the adder, because He has given His angels charge over us, to bear us up lest our foot dash against a stone.
We see every verse building one on the other in Psalm 91, and this verse is no different. If you're reading Psalm 91 line by line, every single line builds one on the other, and the spiritual building blocks in this scripture empower us. The spiritual building blocks of the verses of scripture shows us how to walk with God in seasons of chaos and times of trouble.
It shows us that He is still our God, and that He is empowering us. We may pray for things to get better, but it is God who makes us better versus changing the circumstances. He makes us stronger and gives us the capacity to create solutions, to stand in power, and have victory over the enemy. This is the grace and glory of God at work.
So I'm going to read Psalm 91:1-13, as we are on day 13, and then we'll end in prayer.
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. - Psalm 91:1-13 KJV
I will see you in day number 14.
