To be set apart in the midst of a world that values conforming to the world and having the thought pattern of the world feels different. It feels isolating. It feels very lonely to have standards in a faith that goes beyond being comfortable and that truly settles itself in knowing who God is, not what you're capable of.
For the world will decide to judge and assess based on your own physical capabilities. The Lord assesses based on your submission and your heart. God knows the inner things and understanding the inner things means that He knows the working of your heart. He knows where there are issues in place preventing you fully from receiving from him.
God knows the heart of a man and judges us differently than the world does. So in Psalm 91:7, when it states that “a thousand shall fall at thy side and ten thousand at thy right hand, but it shall not come nigh thee”. The scripture is saying that you are isolated. You are separate. You are set apart.
How are you isolated and how are you separated? Exactly how are you set apart?
