Today’s Devotional Scripture: 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
- 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 KJV

There are seasons when things are plentiful and the joy of the Lord is with us and we are strengthened through our day-to-day battles and journeys. These seasons are good. These seasons are what cause us to shine before men and to know that God is able.

The seasons of being the light in the midst of the darkness in this world, These are seasons that God promises us. But there are also seasons of growth and development, times when we will go into the places of growth, internal work, and fortified faith that we develop in the secret place. This is not always public.

It is not always full of light. It is sometimes a messy, emotionally vulnerable, and authentic season in our lives where the masks come off, and God gets all of us. He gets the hurt. He gets the pain. He gets the messy tears. He gets us unfiltered and unafraid. He gets us raw and real. These are the seasons which are forged in the fire.

This is the trying of our faith, which is more precious than gold. Here in the cornerstone scripture, we see that the apostle is stating that this is the light affliction, which is but for a moment. Immediately, we get a sense that even though what we’re dealing with is heavy in the scope of what we’re growing into eternally, and who we’re becoming, and our walk with God is full of glory.

And not just glory that is light and airy, but the weight of glory that breaks, the weight of glory that fortifies. The weight of glory that you can see on battle-tested believers who have overcome the world and walk fully in who they are in Christ Jesus. This weight is tangible. This weight is evident. You just know that you’re sitting in the face of a believer in Jesus Christ when you can sense the weight of glory that they carry because they are at peace, no matter what.

When all of the world is in chaos, they are steadfast before the Lord. They are unshaken, not because they are so strong. They’re unshaken because their faith is in the one who guides us, the one who strengthens us, and the one who supplies all of our needs according to His riches in glory.
