Audio Version Of This Devotional: Walk In Peace Audio
It's easy to walk when you feel secure. It's easy to walk when you have it all together. It's easy to walk when you know where you're going and you know the destination. These things according to the world means that you have it all together. You know what you're doing. You can have a peaceful journey because you know where you're going.
You know what you're doing. You know the destination. You know the path you're on. You have all things put together. You know exactly where you're going and why. You're intentional. All of these things equate peace to the world.
However, as a believer in Jesus Chris,t our journey is meant to be different. Our journey is meant to be one of complete faith and obedience to the Most High God. Our job is to trust God and to lean not on our own understanding but to acknowledge Him in all of our ways that he may direct our path. That inherently means that we are not directing our own paths. We are not directing our story. We cannot control what happens outside of us.
We cannot control what happens in the world. We cannot control unplanned circumstances, societal changes, economic downturns and collapses. None of that is within our control. So, no: We are not directing our own steps. No one is. But as believers we have come into the knowledge of and agreement with the Word of the Lord that he is our God and we know all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and who are called according to his purposes.
Because of that we know that God is directing our steps. He's ordering our steps. He's guiding us in the ways of truth and life. He is our God and we are his people. We know this as believers. We come into agreement with it as believers.
Now, are we walking that out every single day? Are we completely trusting God every single day? Are we walking in the peace of this world are we're walking with the peace of God?
When walking in the peace of the world, you don't move unless you know. You don't move unless you're certain. You don't move unless you know the way. As believers, we walk in peace. We don't walk in our own strength. We don't walk in our own mind. Jesus is known as the Prince of Peace. We know Him to be this. In Isaiah 9:6 in the King James Version, it says:
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. - Isaiah 9:6 KJV
This morning instead of endeavoring to walk in comfort and instead of endeavoring to move with certainty, let go and step into the Godhead. Step into the presence of the Lord. Pray. Worship God this morning. Surrender your will and decree in your heart and out of your mouth: “Lord thy will be done.”
He's already done his part. He has already structured out our lives. He has already called us since before the beginning of the earth. He called us, he guided us, and he gave us purpose and assignments. He is a faithful God. But do we know him to be the Prince of Peace? Do we know him to be the order of our steps, the director of our destinies?
This is the God that we love. This is the Lord God that we trust. This is the God of our salvation, the Holy One, and the righteous God. This is what is required to truly walk in peace. Let go of every old mindset, let go of every old provocation, and let go of every old weight that so easily besets us and cast your cares upon him for He cares for you. Matthew 11:28 - 30 is a very clear instruction for us.
When we read that in the King James Version it says:
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. - Matthew 11:28-30
This is the promise of the Lord that he wants us to prosper and that he desires to give us rest. There will be increase when you trust him when you rest before Him and you allow him to order your steps for he is the Lord our God and beside him, there is no other. This morning, let go of every old thing and take note of the moment you're in.
Breathe in this new life; this new day with thanksgiving and put all of your cares before the Lord for he cares for you.
