Today’s Devotional Scripture: 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. - Matthew 11:28-30 KJV

The Unlabeled Boxes
There are boxes stacked all over my apartment right now. Mad chaos. Some are labeled. Most are not. Friends showed up to help me move; that is a gift I will never forget! And in the beautiful chaos, nobody wrote on a single box. Oh dear. So here I am, opening them one at a time, deciding what stays and what goes. Kind of like Christmas but not quite as fun!
And the strangest thing keeps happening. Every box or bag I set by the door to give away, my shoulders drop an inch. Every single thing I release, I breathe a little deeper. Three words keep popping up in my head: let it go. Let it go. Let… it… gooooo.
Truly, this isn’t about boxes at all. Jesus once said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest… for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28–30 KJV). Not heavy. Not crushing. Light. Somewhere on the journey, most of us picked up a load that He never handed us and started calling it ours. Why do we insist on bearing that which is not ours to carry?
The Weight We Were Never Given
Here is what a woman is rarely told: the body keeps score of everything the heart holds on to. The tension in the shoulders, the tightness in the jaw, the stubborn weight that settles around the middle and will not budge. So much of it is not a willpower problem. It is a pressure problem. The body was built to be a temple, not a storage unit!
And the mind is worse than any cluttered closet. It replays the conversations from nine years ago. It rehearses tomorrow’s worry before tomorrow even arrives. It keeps receipts on every person who caused pain: filed and ready. I feel this. And yet, scripture offers another way: “Let us lay aside every weight… and let us run with patience the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1 KJV). Oh yes. The race is hard enough without carrying “boxes” we were never meant to bear.
Made to Travel Light
So this is the invitation for the whole woman: mind, body, and soul. The grudge we keep rehearsing. The shame we keep re-reading. The guilt that just refuses to let go. And a big one: the picture of who we were supposed to be by now. Sister in Christ, that is not ours to carry. He said, “Come unto me and I will give you rest.” Not, “come unto me and I will give you more than you are equipped to carry.” The lesson here: releasing the physical burden is simply practice for releasing the mental and emotional burdens we carry unnecessarily. And a soul that sets things down can finally move in love, free to truly enjoy the fruits of the Holy Spirit. That is light!
A Question
What have you been carrying that God never actually handed you: in your body, in your mind, in your heart?
And if you named just one of those things this week, said it out loud, and set it by the door the way I am setting out these boxes, what might your shoulders (your soul!) feel like by Sunday? What would be released from your heart to allow a deeper relationship with the Lord?
Closing Devotional Prayer
My Prayer for You:
Heavenly Father, we thank You that You never ask us to carry what only You can hold. You see every invisible thing the woman reading this has been carrying: the weight in her body, the noise in her mind, the ache she has stopped mentioning, even to You. Lord, by Your authority, we declare this her season of release. Loosen the grip of every burden she was never meant to hold. Remind her that her body is Your temple and her soul was made for peace and rest. May she walk lighter this week than she has in years. And when the weight tries to climb back on, let her hear Your voice say: not this one, daughter; I’ve got it. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
