In a world filled with chaos, war, and anxiety about the future, it may seem almost selfish to place your small needs before the Lord. To care about the little things in your life above what’s happening or beyond what’s happening in the world can absolutely feel wrong.
It can feel selfish. It can feel almost negligent to put your own desires before the Lord while there’s so much that’s happening. And often you’ve either felt it or heard it, parroted it:
You know, why not just be thankful for what little you have?
Why are you so concerned over that little thing?
There’s people who wish they had what you had. Why do you desire more?
Why not just be okay with what you have, seeing as how there’s people in the world that have it way worse than you?
And all of these things sound logical, but they actually defy scripture because the Lord came that we would have life and have it more abundantly.
He came to set us free from people’s expectations, from people pleasing, and from living and breathing and being small. Being constrained by fear and being constrained by the concern of what others would think of us. The liberty that God comes and that he brings in the earth through Jesus is the liberty that shakes off every shackle and lives fully, embracing the assignment of God.
Lives fully knowing that God actually cares about the desires of our hearts qs it tells us in Psalm 37:4. The Lord cares about the things that concern us. And yes, the world is big. And yes, there are so many battles happening in the world. We have a God that billions, a billion at least, people believe in all over the planet. You think that at any given moment, there are no calamities, wars, conflicts, battles, and greater and lesser issues than what you’re dealing with in any given moment?
We serve a God who is able, who is omnipresent, who is powerful, and who is mighty. He’s right here with you. And He’s also with the person in Nigeria. He’s also with the churches being restricted and being oppressed in China. He’s also with the believers in Iran right now. He’s with us all over the earth.
