Take Your Breakthrough Out Of The Closet.
Take your breakthrough out of the closet:
Stick with me until the end. This is going to be so good.
So I realized something this morning: Most people don't really understand how social media works.
I was reading a post today about a young kid who was bullied at Collegiate Day at school. He wanted a University of Tennessee (UT) but they couldn't find on a short notice.
Mom to the rescue! 🤣
They drew UT on a piece of paper and pinned it to an orange 🍊 shirt.
After the bullying, one of the teachers at the school pinned his papar design on a Cat in the Hat t-shirt. It was super sketchy (not bad but a real penciled sketch type thing).
The kids bullied him so bad. His teacher shared the picture on the internet and you would not BELIEVE what happened.
The post went viral. So many people supported the kid's creativity. The University got wind of the story and the rest is history.
No, literally history
This story happened almost 5 years ago. 😳
I just found it today. Mom did a statement 5 years ago and the the opening of the statement basically said
We were in a jam. Thought out this idea. His teacher shared the shirt and now the story you've all heard about is the result.
Except- I’ve never heard of it before today. That's when it hit me: people think something being viral means everyone has heard the story.
But that's not true. I had to go deeper to get the full story because I wanted to know.
Found the story and realized immediately it happened 5 years ago. The person who posted this on Instagram TODAY had thousands of engagements on the post.
No mention of the date/year of the story. Just the powerful response by the University of Tennessee to create the shirt and sell over 16,000 units.
Someone is selling that shirt today from a story I never heard of that happened 5 years ago.
My point: We're so busy trying to create something new that we forget that the bubble is inside of our minds.
I can guarantee you there are over a million people right now who have never heard of your best selling product yet.
It may be time to go back into the archives and bring back that thing that had legs.
Tell your story again. Do *IT* again. Believe in it.
