In this scripture, we see a people who have come out of Egypt, have been delivered from the bonds of slavery to the Egyptians, and are on their way to the land of promise. This was the land that was prophesied to Abraham. This is the promised land that the Lord told Abraham his descendants would inherit.
6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
7 And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him. - Genesis 12:6-7 KJV
Now that they are on the brink of crossing over into the promise, there is something that transpires. Moses decides to send out 12 spies, a leader from every tribe. And the leader from every tribe goes out together in pairs to search the land. Simple: Go search the land, give us a report.
After 40 days and 40 nights of searching the land, the 12 of them come back bearing the same evidence, the same fruit, the same glory. The same. They see the fruit. It takes two men to carry one bushel of fruit. So there's evidence that this is a good land and that there's promise. We see in Numbers chapter 13:23.
And they came unto the brook of Ashur and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes. And they buried between two upon a staff and they brought of the pomegranates and of the figs. - Numbers 13:23 KJV
They brought the evidence with them that this was a good place versus providing a good report. 10 of them said that the land, it eats them up, that it's too large, that there's giants in the land. And it says in verse 33 of Numbers 13:
And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants. And we were in our own sight as grasshoppers. And so we were in their sight. - Numbers 13:33 KJV
They saw the goodness in the land. They saw the increase. They saw the promise opening up, but 10 of them decided to focus on the scope of the land. They decided to focus on how big it was and how overwhelming it would be and they focused on the giants, the obstacles. That shows you that people have the capability to see one thing and see that one thing so differently from another person, that it causes division. It causes a rift.
We see here that this is good fruit, and we see that the Lord is blessing them to walk into this land. He is with them. He is the Lord who has delivered them across an ocean. Delivered them across the Red Sea. He is the God who was fire by night and the cloud by day for over half a million people. He provided for them. And at the brink of them crossing over, division caused them to see the destination as unworthy, as too much, as dangerous, as overwhelming.
When you can see the goodness, but only focus on the negative, you are essentially seeing the same thing across a rift. And the rift is not physical. Both sides had the same. All 12 had the same fruit. The same evidence. So the rift was not physical. The rift was mental. The divide between the 10 and between Joshua and Caleb was a matter of mindset. It was a matter of faith.
So, when we see “we were in our own sight as grasshoppers”, that term shows you that the people who saw and brought the negative report before the Lord, before the people of Israel, and before Moses saw the negative in it. It was a mindset issue. When we look at the cornerstone scripture for today, we see what it takes to cross over. It doesn't take physically seeing the same thing.
It doesn't take physically having the same this or the same that. It takes mentally seeing the same thing in a unified way so that the whole can progress forward. So when it says: “but my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land where into he went and his seed shall possess it”. So inheritance upon Caleb and upon his entire lineage came forth because Caleb had a different spirit.
When we have two opposing thoughts for the same exact thing, it shows you how some can see the positive and some will see the negative, and you cannot bridge that divide without the right spirit. And yes, there is a right spirit. It's not all one spirit. This is why it is called the Holy Spirit versus just spirits. And the spirit of divination operates through the spiritual, but not through the Holy Spirit. We see that, of course, in Acts chapter 16.
So when looking through this word and walking through this scripture, you can begin to see how two different spirits will always go to war. The rift can never be bridged if there are two different spirits. Yes, Matthew 19:26 says With man, this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible.
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. - Matthew 19:26 KJV
Yes, all things are possible, but it has to be with God. With God's spirit. In this case, we can see that the only way that you bridge the rift with the ones that you love, you bridge the rift in a marriage, you bridge the rift in a church relationship, you bridge the rift between you and a coworker; the only way that you bridge the rift is to have the same spirit. Everyone doesn't have to be the same, but you must have the same spirit.
It's important to note that because of this, they were relegated to the wilderness for an additional 40 years. God spoke and decreed that everyone who was age 20* and older in all of the 10 tribes had to die before the entire population was allowed to cross over. The promise was delayed. The progression was delayed. They ended up going around a mountain for 40 years in cyclic behaviors, with a cyclic nature for 40 years, versus crossing over at Numbers 14.
So verse 33 of Numbers 14 decrees:
33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness. - Numbers 14:33 KJV
Now, praise God for grace. We're not seeing our carcasses wasted inside of cities and towns and things of that nature, but we are seeing a lack of progress. We're seeing the same generational battles that our grandparents fought. We're fighting those same things now because of the rift, and the only way that we bridge the rift is through the word of the Lord.
The only way that we progress forward together is through having the spirit of the living God. That same spirit. One accord. Bridging the rift, repairing it, and restoring it to wholeness requires complete submission, complete faith. It requires a different mindset. It requires faith that it is possible because God can do anything, but God cannot change your mind.
That is a decision. To let go of old things and decide to let go of your grasshopper-like thinking. That's what Numbers 3:33 shows us. If you think you are a grasshopper, then they will see you as a grasshopper. If you think that it'll never happen, then it may never happen. Above all else, your faith will make you whole.
When dealing with interpersonal relationships with your family, your children, your marriages, our communities, and our backyards, we need the same spirit and the heart to come together to see something else arise. To see a new sound be released. To repair the breach, to restore the unity, and bring about peace that our children may cross over. That there would not be another generation delayed because of the rift.
The moment you decide to put down the old thinking, put down the old mindsets, and come together of one accord, we can see the wind of God come forth and touch every situation, every heart, and every mind. For He is God alone. There is a peace that comes forth when you realize it was never about you and what you could do on your own. It was about God and about what His Spirit could do through you.
Remember that Caleb didn't do this on his own. In Numbers 14:24, it literally says: But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit. Why did he see something different? Why did Joshua see something different? Why did their tribes of elders get to cross over when all the elders in the other tribes never saw the land of promise, never saw Canaan? Why is it that the tribes of Caleb and Joshua, why were they able to cross over? Because they had another spirit and followed God fully.
Having another spirit means there's no room for anything else. There's no room for self, there's no room for pride. We can only do this by His Spirit. We can only do this with His love. We can only do this together.
Closing Devotional Prayer
My prayer for you: Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank you for the mighty woman of God listening to this devotional and reading this devotional right now. I thank you, Lord God, that the grace and glory of God is going go forth over her and over her children's children. Thank you that her marriage, God, is secure.
Thank you, God, that her family is well-loved. For my single sisters, Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus, that her heart be prepared for what you have for her. Not what the world has left for her and not what the situation says she's worthy of. Thank you, oh God, that you are a restorer, God, of visions and dreams for single women, God, that we can come before you, oh God, knowing that you have a purpose and a plan for us beyond what the world may see.
So I thank you, God, for the single woman and the single mother, God, we are covered in the blood of Jesus. I thank you, God, for the married woman. I thank you, God, for every woman. I thank you, God, for women who are literally walking with you, for women who have committed their lives to you, oh God, in celibacy. They've committed their lives to be celibate for the rest of their lives, versus abstaining.
I thank you for them as well, oh God. I thank you for the peace of God, for every woman listening right now. That this is right where she needed to be today, that there's no mistaking where you've ordered our steps, each and every one of us. We are here together, Lord God. Thanking you, God, for the scripture that shows us the consequences, God, of the rift.
This is not something that's just going affect us, but it's going tp affect our children and our children's children. Thank you, God, for relational, familial connections being restored, where we have grown apathetic and good relationships, God. Let us make those relationships great. I thank you, God, that marriages are gonna be strengthened because she realizes, God, that there needs to be one spirit with her and her spouse.
I thank you that children will be restored back to their homes because there needs to be one spirit. Let the kitchen table conversations come back with love, oh God. Lord, for any woman that is separated from her children, from her family, oh God, isolated and wondering when she can be back together again. I thank you, oh God, that you will restore and repair the breach, but Lord God, that the mighty woman of God is going forth with her armor.
She's going forth with her word. She is no longer without the scripture needed, oh God, to fight the division, to fight the weapons of the enemy. God, to fight, oh God, I thank you, Lord, that she has come upon this thing with word, with praise, with scripture. Lord God, you say in the Bible that the people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
This is not traditional knowledge. This is literally revelation of the Holy Spirit because you go on to say in Hosea chapter 4, beyond that scripture, you go on to say that your mothers and your fathers were no different. So we know that this is about generationally operating in what we believe is tradition without revelation.
We're operating and we're doing things by action alone, but not with your spirit, not with the fresh revelation of your spirit. Let us release every old mindset and every old paradigm, oh God, and let a new thing come forth. I just believe, oh God, that a new thing is coming forth, that, Lord God, there's a bridge that is being constructed by your spirit, oh God, and that we're gonna see the outcome, that families are gonna come together, oh God.
I pray that by the end of this year that families be restored, oh God, in the name of Jesus, that all isolation begins to break, oh God. Lord God, there's nobody like you. I thank you for the supernatural power of God. I thank you for the healing power of the Holy Spirit, and I thank you that the mighty woman of God is here now, healed, whole, delivered, and set free from every affliction. For the Bible decrees, many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Lord, you deliver us from them all. I thank you, Lord, and I pray in Jesus' mighty name, amen.
