Today’s Devotional Scripture: 4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
- 1 Kings 19:4-6 KJV
20 And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.
21 I went out full and the Lord hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the Lord hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me? - Ruth 1:20-21 KJV

After all is said and done, when walking through the heaviest seasons of your life, it’s easy to desire to just be still and not move. It’s easy to not desire to press any longer and to simply be thankful with the life that God has given you and let go of desiring and hoping for more.
In the two cornerstone scriptures today, we see the Prophet Elijah, who has done a great work for the Lord and brought back the reign upon Israel. He has decided that this is the height of his life and that he would rather let everything go. We also see Ruth and Naomi, and here in Ruth chapter 1, Naomi is saying to call her Mara.
She is saying to change her name because the Lord has dealt bitterly with her, that she went out of Bethlehem full and came back empty. So we see two people in scripture who have dealt with highs and lows, and now they feel that it is done. It’s over. They’ve seen the heights, they’ve seen the lows, and they’re ready to just get to a place of peace.
A new plan from the Lord
They’re ready to let go and just be. But the Lord has another plan for them. God has a new plan, and that plan is not over for Elijah and Naomi. There’s a journey that God has for them, the start of something new that God has for them. And so we see that as Elijah parks himself under a tree and says, Lord, I’ve had enough. He goes to sleep, and an angel of the Lord is sent to wake him up and to tell him: Get up, eat (1 Kings 19:5 KJV).
