**Sip Saturday is written by our Saturday morning contributor, - A beautifully gifted Christian author who seeks to honor the Trinity in her writing. She hopes that her words will encourage women to draw closer to God, whether that is through her fantasy series or her weekly devotionals.
Cornerstone Scripture:
"You made him for a little while lower than the angels;
you have crowned him with glory and honor…"
-Hebrews 2:7 ESV
Have you seen the movie, Princess Diaries? In it, Mia Thermopolis, an ordinary teenager, discovers she is the heir to the fictional kingdom of Genovia. Socially awkward, clumsy, and unattractive, Mia gawks at the idea of becoming a princess. As the movie develops, she is transformed, growing in confidence with the support of her grandmother, friends, and bodyguard. The movie is a wonderful example of how one's beauty is just waiting to be unveiled.
In this passage, the author of Hebrews is pointing to how Jesus came to earth as a lowly human being instead of a conquering king. Although he deserves every crown, he still came to die for our sins and redeem us. It reminds me of the lyrics: "Crown him with many crowns/
the Lamb upon his throne./Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns/all music but its own." This song is a reminder of the royal authority Jesus has.
Yet, just like Mia, we, too, are royals. We are adopted into God's family, which means we are princesses and queens.
"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light."-1 Peter 2:9 ESV
God also promises crowns as a reward for serving him to the end of our lifetimes.
"Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him."-James 1:12
As a member of his royal family, we should behave accordingly. Mia had to learn how to walk, sit, eat, and talk like a princess. In the same way, we should honor God with the way we speak, eat, and move. We should be kind to one another, treating everyone equally, and even being gracious to our enemies, like true princesses. This way, we honor our father, the king.
Let's pray.
Dear Lord, help us to be the royals you made us to be, running the race of life in order to receive a crown. You are our King and we are grateful to follow you. Amen.
Loved this analogy and awesome Word!
