**Sip Saturday is written by our Saturday morning contributor, M.H. Elrich. A beautifully gifted Christian author who seeks to honor the Trinity in her writing. She hopes that her words will encourage women to draw closer to God, whether that is through her fantasy series or her weekly devotionals.
Cornerstone Scripture:
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
-Hebrews 4:14 KJV
Have you ever played tug-of-war? In this activity, two teams, usually of five people, pull a singular rope. The goal is to tug the rope entirely to one side over the other. This game, especially with a straw rope, can cause rope burn, bruising, and strained arm muscles. Yet, it is a common game for children.
When I think of the words, “hold fast,” I think of tug-of-war. I think about how hard I held on, trying desperately to pull the other team down. I consider how often I would slip and slide into the mud, rope flying through my fingers, leaving them red with rope burn.
Unlike the game, holding on to Jesus will not result in burns and bruises. Nor is it quite like holding onto a rope. Instead, it is more referring to our hearts, minds, and bodies.
Holding on means persevering. It means even when our hearts are broken and feel like they will never be repaired, holding on to Jesus by crying at His feet and believing he has a plan. It means even when it feels like we are losing our minds from stress or exhaustion, that we hold on to Jesus, the source of all wisdom, discerner of truth, and rest for our souls. It means even when we don’t feel like we can endure one more treatment, or suffer through one more surgery, we turn to Jesus, who empathizes with our pain and comforts us in our medical disaster.
I can practically hear a poem from Him:
Hold fast, my love, hold fast
Don’t ever let me go
I promise I will be true to you
More than you’ll ever know
So even when you feel like giving up
Don’t ever let me go
Hold fast, my love, hold fast
Let’s pray.
Dear Lord, help us to draw near to you and to hold on to you, our anchor in the storm. Bring us to your Lord, even through difficult times. Help us to hold fast. In Your Son’s Name, Amen
P.S. I am the author of these books, and they are available in all formats: paperback, ebook, and audiobook! Thank you for your weekly support of Sip Saturday.
