**Sip Saturday is written by our Saturday morning contributor, - A beautifully gifted Christian author who seeks to honor the Trinity in her writing. She hopes that her words will encourage women to draw closer to God, whether that is through her fantasy series or her weekly devotionals.
Cornerstone Scripture:
And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says,
“Let all God's angels worship him.”
-Hebrews 1:6 ESV
During Christmas, I usually decorate with angels.
I have half a dozen angel ornaments, one angel doll that my mother made for me, and at least one angel for my nativity.
Why so many? Because I love the tale of the angels appearing during Jesus' birth.
I think it is because I love the supernatural aspects of the Bible.
As a fantasy author, such scenes are fodder for my imagination.
However, I am careful to not let my imagination overrun my reverence for the Lord.
That's exactly what the author of Hebrews is trying to prove.
He or she wanted to show that angels are still servants of the one true King, and that they ultimately exist as messengers and worshipers of Jesus.
The author does this by referencing the story of Jesus' birth, which is evidence of how much the angels must be in awe of him.
"And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
'Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!'"
-Luke 2:14-15 ESV
Angels worship God at all times, and their praise regarding the birth of Jesus further points to Jesus' divine status.
Their words indicate their reverence for him because he is "in the highest," which means that he is above them.
Conveying a message for the shepherds to go and worship Jesus indicates their position as messengers.
Also, the angels break into song, giving glory to God, showing their role as worshipers.
All of this solidifies that angels are meant to worship and be messengers.
Beneath the Lord God Almighty, angels should not be worshiped like him.
Instead, angels worship Jesus from the moment He is born.
So, even though I decorate my house with angels during Christmas, I try to keep Christ at the center.
The nativity is always in a place of reverence, and I cherish my nativity ornaments as much as the angels.
These objects are reminders to keep Christ in my heart, knowing He cannot be contained by an item.
Jesus deserves to be worshiped and honored more than any angel.
How can you worship Him more this week?
Let's pray.
Lord, help us to remember to worship you, no matter the season. Let us focus on you, not the supernatural. In your Son's precious name, Amen.
AMEN
