**Sip Saturday is written by our Saturday morning contributor, - A beautifully gifted Christian author who seeks to honor the Trinity in her writing. She hopes that her words will encourage women to draw closer to God, whether that is through her fantasy series or her weekly devotionals.
Cornerstone Scripture:
He also says,
In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
-Hebrews 1:10 ESV
The children played outside under the beauty of a blue sky with white, fluffy clouds. Something so simple brought out a spirit of worship within me. If it wasn't for the responsibility of watching over children, I probably would've begun singing a song of worship. Within that moment of slowness and peacefulness, as well as the joy of children playing, I was able to reflect on God as the Creator he is. The sky is beautiful, both during the day and during the night.
Traditionally, the heavens are seen as the sky, whether it is during the day or the night. But is that truly what heaven looks like? Is heaven a blue sky with fluffy clouds and cherubim? However, many scholars think that the skies we see (whether the day or night sky, or even the stars beyond), are not the heavenly realm where God the Father and the angels dwell. In fact, many think of it as the third heaven (2 Corinthians 12:1-9 and GotQuestions).
What we do know about heaven is that it is a paradise (Luke 23:43), and that Jesus is there now, working on providing a place for us to stay with him (John 14:2). We also know that there will be no more suffering, pain, crying, or tears in heaven (Revelation 21:4). Even though we know what the new Jerusalem and new earth will look like because of Revelation, the description is still limited by our earthly understanding (Revelation 21-22). Heaven is beyond imagination, but it is well worth longing for, as it is a perfect place where we will be in perfect peace with God.
You can see glimpses of heaven here. Beautiful blue skies remind us of a loving creator. A children's laugh reminds us of the joy of heaven. The breeze can remind of you of God's still, small voice. These small glimpses should fill you with longing for the one day when you can talk to God face-to-face, free of worry and concern.
Let's pray.
Dear Lord, please help us to look forward to heaven with a righteous longing. Let us be thankful for the little glimpses we have here, and prepare our hearts for that future day. Amen.
