The moment we start lifting ourselves up and feeling as if we did things on our own, we cross into something known as boasting in scripture. Celebrating our wins, celebrating how well we did, and focusing on our works. After so long of that, it’s easy to look to the works of your hands as dependable.
It’s easy to look to your strength and your power to restore you, to save you, to heal, to deliver, to break you free of things that we feel are tangible. Things like breaking a pattern, eating healthy, all of these things. But everything has a spiritual root. Everything is rooted in spirit.
Our habits, our mindset, our hearts, our thoughts, our emotions, all of these things are rooted in spirit. In fact, the Lord tells us to guard our hearts, for the issues of life flow from them (Proverbs 4:23 KJV). So these things matter. Our emotions matter. How we see things matters. How close we are to God in terms of our personal walk with Him.
Our faith, our prayer time, our worshiping, our praise, our meditation day and night that we may have good success (Joshua 1:8 KJV). All of these things. This is what shows us where we are in the walk, and these are the things that strengthen us in Christ Jesus.
Not our works, not the works of our hands, not by might, not by power, but by the Spirit of the living God. This is how we are called to walk, and this is how we step into victory. It is by the Spirit of the living God, not by anything that we’ve done on our own, not by any of our works, not by how hard we worked in our 60‑hour work weeks, in our two jobs, or whatever the case may be.
These are the things that we’re doing so that we may survive. We may provide for our families. These are the things that many of us are doing, men and women. We are working so hard to keep life together, to keep things together, and slowly but surely, the enemy is eroding that faith in Christ Jesus. Eroding our faith in who God is in our lives.
The deeper we lean to work, the deeper we lean into working hard, and the deeper we lean into the works of our flesh, we are walking further and further away from the Lord. Further and further away from faith. Further and further away from the truth of his word. In this season, there may be things that just don’t work.
They just are not successful. Not because you’re not capable and not because you aren’t skilled. Not because you don’t know how to deal with these things, but there comes a time when you must lean on God, trust in him, and lean not to your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV).
When we begin to acknowledge God in all of our ways, he makes the way clear. He makes the path clear. God goes forth to do the work that, even though we may be able to handle it or put it in our control, letting it go frees us up to stay in perfect peace in Him. To remain centered and balanced in Christ Jesus, to not be scattered, overwhelmed, anxious, worried, and careful for everything.
Let us not be like Martha in this season, but more so, let us be like Mary, where Martha knew her job was to provide for the meal, get everything ready, and prepare for everyone. But Mary sat there at the feet of Jesus, and Jesus told Martha, when Martha asked, Aren’t you going to have my sister help me? Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen the good thing and that no one would take that from her (Luke 10:38-42 KJV).
The place of rest, the place of sitting at the feet of Jesus, the place of receiving of the teachings and the word of the Lord. This is what the Lord tells us, that it’s better to sit still in his presence than to work it out in our own strength or to try to work things out or to try to do and try to build.
The more productive we become, the more focused we become on the numbers, the more we pour out, the less we trust Jesus, and the less we attribute our successes to Jesus. And what does it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul? In this hour, remember that we are saved through faith, that maybe it’s time to rest before the Lord, to be still before our God, and to know that he is more than able.
Now that we know that we’re saved by faith, as we begin to look towards today and we begin to look towards what God is doing in this hour, embrace the fact that you may not have it all together. Embrace the idea that it’s okay that you don’t do it all. Embrace the idea that God is right there with you, ready to direct your every step, ready to guide you, ready to receive you in rest in his presence. Ready for you to finally recognize how good He is, how mighty He is, and how much He loves you.
God is the lover of our souls. Jesus came and chose the cross for us. We are indeed loved, and we are covered by His word and by the sacrifice of the Lord. We are covered. We are covered, and there is no other God. The righteousness of God is here with us to heal, to deliver, to set free, in the name of Jesus.
Closing Devotional Prayer
My prayer for you:
Lord, I thank you for the mighty woman of God. I thank you right now for suddenness in her life. I thank you for sudden breakthrough, for shifts, for transformations. I thank you, God, that this word lets us know that we don’t have to do it on our own, that we can let go and trust that you are the Lord our God, that you are mighty to save, mighty to deliver, and mighty to set free.
There is nobody like you, King Jesus, Jehovah, Jehovah Rapha, our great God, Jehovah Shalom, the God of our peace. You are God alone, and the favor of God is in your presence. Lord, I thank you right now for the mighty woman of God, receiving that you are the Lord, that you are able, that you are mighty to save, deliver, and set free.
So Lord, I thank you right now for the outpouring. I thank you for the grace. I thank you for the love. You are God alone. I thank you, Lord, and I pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
