Today’s Devotional Scripture: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." - Matthew 11:28–30 KJV

There is an invisible yet very real pressure weighing on the shoulders of many modern women. It is felt by the one who navigates her career while simultaneously being a mother, wife, caregiver, executive planner, interior decorator, friend, leader, housekeeper, and chef.
As she manages the metrics, plans every detail of the household, and executes hundreds of tiny tasks throughout the day, she often forgets to pause, breathe, and pay attention to what feels heavy.
All around us, voices are declaring that strength is measured by a woman’s capacity to handle it all. Much of modern self-help culture conditions us to believe that independent grinding, absolute self-reliance, and perpetual hustle are the ultimate expressions of a capable life. The truth is, this is a blueprint for burnout, driven by the need to plot our own course.
It is here that God places a larger-than-life caution sign.
When we walk in a performance-driven mentality, we tend to live a life based solely on our checklist rather than His presence:
Say morning prayer… check.
Read the Bible… check.
Listen to Christian music… go for a walk… check and check.
And then we dive into the rest of our endless mental to-do list, pulled to and fro throughout the day. It is often here that we fall into a mundane routine in some places and haphazard happenings in others, becoming overwhelmed by a life made of our own design.
In these moments, God lovingly highlights areas of our lives where we are focused more on the task than on co-laboring. And in His grace, He reminds us that our walk with Him was never meant to be laden with the weight of perfectionism or self-reliance.
An Invitation
When the weight of our life has become heavy, we are instructed to go directly to our Father. His Holy Spirit serves as our Comforter, Counselor, and Guide. He will show us when we are operating from a performance-based identity and help us to see our true identity as much-loved daughters.
Matthew 11:28–30 became very real to me as I walked through a season of healing and restoration from this burdensome mentality. This verse was foundational to a daily surrender of my will to His and to walking without a crushing weight on my shoulders. It will always hold a place very near and dear to my heart.
Whenever I would forget and go blazing forward on my own, He would gently remind me: “Remember, my burden is easy, and my yoke is light.”
Did you know the word “yoke” stems from the Proto-Indo-European word yug, which means “to join together”? In the agrarian society, an ox was never meant to be yoked alone. A yoke was specifically engineered for partnership. When two oxen are joined together, they are locked into the same stride. Their strength is combined, and they can pull up to three times the weight a single animal could on its own.
In this scripture, He is promising rest as we walk this out, yoked to Him. When we walk with Him, we are exponentially stronger, divinely directed, and never alone. And because of His promises, this is not an equal distribution of labor; Christ is the master weight-bearer.
He walks beside us, doing the heavy lifting as we are tethered to His infinite strength. As we choose to be yoked to Him, the weight is drastically reduced. He sets a protected, sustainable, and beautifully orchestrated pace for our journey.
At His Feet
Today, He offers you the same profound invitation, one that has the power to shatter your self-imposed chains and provide you with overflowing peace.
If your schedule feels crushing, your mind is full of anxiety, or the noise of over-performance is drowning out the sound of peace in your life, He asks you to come to Him and lay it down at His feet.
Ask where you might be trying to be a mom, a professional, or a wife completely on your own.
Or maybe you’re carrying a load that God told you to put down years ago, something you previously surrendered to Him?
Lamentations 3:22–23 (KJV) promises: “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning.”
Every day is a new opportunity to choose to surrender our will to His and to be yoked with Him as we walk this out together.
Closing Devotional Prayer
My Prayer For You:
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your mercies that endure forever, and you are always faithful. We understand that we were never meant to walk this earth carrying the weight of life alone. In your infinite wisdom, you made a better way when you graciously yoked us together as one with your Son, Jesus Christ.
Forgive us for the times we have stepped out on our own and plowed our own path, in our own strength. And forgive us for the moments we have picked up weights we were never meant to carry, mistaking performance for progress.
Holy Spirit, search our hearts today. Show us exactly what we need to put down completely. Reveal anything that is not from you. And show us what you would have us walk out with you.
If we have picked up burdens of our own design, give us the grace to leave them at your feet. We choose to come to you, knowing you give us rest, for your yoke is easy, and your burden is light.
We have full confidence that your infinite strength covers our every weakness. Guide our steps, and set our pace as we remain securely in Your presence today. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
