Audio Version Of This Devotional: More Than Able Audio
Exceeding. Abundantly. Above. These are the cornerstones of today's scripture. God is able to do all that you think or imagine and more. You are not alone. As you consider the resistance and the internal and external obstacles that you may be facing, it can really be easy to slip into a mindset that you are figuring it out and that you're making it happen. Out of this theology of singleness of mind that you are alone and that you are figuring things out, there comes a desire to do better, to be better so that you can somehow gain more favor from God.
That because you are the best person, that you're going to get all the help that you need and that life is going to be easy. This theology is a lie from the enemy. This belief is a weapon of the enemy to keep the people of God rooted in performance-based relationship with God. God never said that if you do good he'll bless you more.
If you do good, he'll make sure you never have issues.
If you do good there'll never be a problem you have to face.
If you do good then you're worthy somehow of the blessing of God.
God never said those things. Of course, He is faithful. Of course He says you know that in this mansion, there are many rooms. But God never predicated the Holy Spirit on whether or not you did all the right things or you performed to a certain standard. That's not what God is about. This scripture says that He can do “exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power” at work within you.
So having the Holy Spirit, receiving the Holy Spirit by baptism, and receiving the Holy Spirit by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. These are all things that happen when you come into the kingdom, when you come into the belief, and you receive that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. These things come with you receiving Jesus.
They don't come with you being a good person. They don't come with you being in, you know, two years inside of accepting Jesus. There's going to be a Holy Spirit anointing that falls on you. Yet none of that is true. None of that is God. None of that is the heart of the Father. But these are some of the things that we consider and believe that show up in the way that we often attempt to be qualified for the move of God.
We attempt to go through education and certifications so that we can be qualified to do what God has called us to do. We go through all of that because that is the assumption that when we do, there's going to be more and more favor and that it will all be easy.
This robs the people of God of the tenacity and the long-suffering that comes when life is hard despite the fact that you're a good person. When things don't go your way despite the fact that you always did things right. It negatively impacts your relationship with God when we’re operating in a performance-based mindset.
So this scripture in Ephesians Chapter 3:20-21 makes it clear that God shall do it according to the power at work within us, not because of our good works. Not because we always had great family connections or because we always had a spoon in our mouth and upon coming into the earth we've always been trust fund babies. No, none of that is true. The moment you begin to conflate your behaviors and your accomplishments with the grace and the glory of God, things get a little lost and jumbled in translation.
The scripture this morning reminds us that we are walking with the sovereign Lord. We are not alone. We can trust in Him and he can do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. So maybe, just maybe, it's okay to think big. It is okay not to rationalize your dreams with your own capacity in this moment.
It is okay to dream and to believe to a capacity far beyond where you are because maybe the dream is meant to develop you and cultivate the heart in you to become by divine destiny and walking with God. The scripture says pressing towards the mark of the prize of the high calling high calling in Christ Jesus.
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 3:14 KJV
Pressing towards that mark of the prize of the high calling means that we are walking with God. We are developing all the time. We are becoming. We never “arrive “. When the apostle says that “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”, the apostle is saying “I'm growing even writing this letter to the church”. He's saying “I am yet growing”.
It's okay to raise your expectations. It's okay to believe God for the incredible, the impossible, the undeniable visions and dreams that He has given you. It's okay to reach for that. It's okay to receive that in your heart and in your mind and your soul in the name of Jesus. It's okay to receive the will of the Father because hHe is more than able to do it and he is doing it by grace and by faith.
You must believe that God is not done in your story. You must receive in your heart that there is more that He has in store for you. This is the season to wake up and start walking in your calling. There is something more on the horizon and the blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow to it. No more thinking that you are alone. No more thinking that you have to operate a certain way and no more believing the lies of the enemy to be realistic and think small.
The power of the Holy Spirit, the comforter, is at work on your behalf in john chapter 14 verse 26 the scripture says:
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
That scripture shows you that the power at work within you is the Holy Spirit at work within you. The comforter, the teacher at work within you. The supplier of our need for understanding and revelation comes by way of the Holy Spirit. He's able to do it.
Release every old notion that you must be or must do. That comes in the doing. Your job now is to say yes, to receive that the Lord is with you, that He will never leave you nor forsake you, and then go out and make disciples of all men.
That's it and that's all.
