The spring season often conveys the feeling of flowers and trees, yellow sunflowers and bees, and brightness and joy as the winter officially fades away. We see this new season, and there’s this joy that comes upon us to know that the season has changed, that we can rise, we can go outside, we can enjoy the day.
However, not only are we seeing the joy of increase, the joy of flowers, and the joy of everything coming alive in the spring, we’re also facing the fact that there were some things that we let go in the last season. There may be some situations, some people, there may be some circumstances that we were accustomed to that had to end. And it feels like a death.
It feels like no matter how hard you fought for it, that it was always just going to fall apart. However, there’s a time and a season for everything. There’s a time and a season for everything under the sun: for death, for life, for relationships, for love, for the end of love, for joy, for celebrations, and for resting before the Lord and grieving and just knowing that no matter what, the Lord is with you.
The seasons that we’re stepping into now are full of new life, full of freshness, full of open opportunities. But it requires that we let some things pass, some things that we might have depended on, some things we might have needed. Those things are no longer needed. Those things are no longer a part of our walk.
They’re no longer a part of our destiny. And letting go is the hardest thing you’ll have to do when something that you needed, something like a habit, an ideal, a mindset that you relied on, is no longer needed.
What do you do? How do you let it go?
How do you avoid bringing that into the new?
You let it pass away.
We see it time and time again in scripture. We see the death of a sisterhood between Orpah and Ruth in Ruth chapter 1. We see that Orpah went back to Moab, but Ruth decided to go forward to Bethlehem, and in doing so, they began to live completely different lives, even though they were sisters.
We see it with the Israelites crossing over the River Jordan in Joshua 5. As they crossed over, it says that there was no more manna (Joshua 5:12 KJV). So 40 years of eating one way, of creating their food one way, 40 years of them relying on a certain method to process their food was now done. Suddenly, it was over. They had to change the way that they thought. They had to let the old season go.
Even as they stepped into Canaan, into the land of promise, they had to look forward to thinking a new way about how to eat, operating a new way in how they would store food. Everything changed suddenly because the season had changed. The old thing had to pass away.
And so we see this in scripture. We see the breaking that comes. We see how one thing ends, and another thing begins. And it’s all done in time and in season. For there is nothing new under the sun. Everything that we see, we’ve seen before, and we will see again. The Lord our God is with us. He’s mighty to save, mighty to deliver, and mighty to set free. He’s mighty to bring about great change in our lives.
And the courage that we have is evident in us letting go of every old thing. Letting the old thing pass away. Letting the thing we never thought we could live without be the thing that we know we can give to the Lord, and he may never give it back, and that is okay. Being okay with the fact that the things that we surrender to God, the habits that we no longer pursue, the thoughts that we used to have, we can give them to God and become someone new.
We can begin to create new habits, new ideals, and new beliefs that line up with a new season, with an open door. Everything passes away. Everything under the sun is vanity.
The Lord our God is with us.
The Lord is here to guide our steps, to show us a new season, and to open up new ways of understanding in our hearts and minds. The Bible tells us that as we walk with him, we are to let things go. In Philippians 3:13-14 in the King James Version, it reads,
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 3:13-14 KJV
Let go of everything that you held on to, that you thought you needed, AND everything that you’ve accomplished. Lean not to your own understanding. Make that your decree: to lean not to your own understanding, but to acknowledge God in all of your ways, that he may direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV).
And maybe, just maybe, it’s a good thing that you don’t know exactly where this road is headed. You don’t really know the destination, but you know the God who guides you. Because would you trust Him? Would you rely on HIm? Would you seek His face if you already knew the way?
If you already knew how to do it, if you already knew how everything was going to go, if you already knew this season, familiar with it, if you already knew? Would you lean in? Would you trust Him? Would you ask? Would you inquire of the Lord? These are questions to really think about and live by.
But as we begin to walk with God, we’re no longer walking in our own strength. We’re no longer walking in our own understanding. We’re walking with the Lord, ready to go where He says go, ready to do what He says do, and ready to live how He’s telling us to live. Ready to flow and trust Him completely, for he is the Lord our God and he’s mighty to live and mighty to set free. There’s nobody like him.
Maybe that time is now. As you begin to let go and let things pass here and now, I pray that every wall comes down and that your heart is open to a plethora of possibilities. There is nothing too hard for the Lord, and he’s able to do it. But letting go is required. Letting the old things pass is required.
We cannot continue to hold on to who we were and walk into where we’re going. It’s not possible to be in two places at one time. So the decision must be made. Will you trust God, and will you let it pass?
Closing Devotional Prayer
My Prayer for You:
Father, in the name of Jesus, thank you. Thank you, God, that your mercies are new every morning. Thank you for this mighty woman of God. Thank you, God, that she is seeing a brand new morning, a brand new day, and it’s a brand new opportunity to bless you, God, a brand new opportunity to lift you up.
I thank you right now that she’s ready to let go of every old habit, every old mindset, every hindering belief. Lord God, I thank you that she can give it to you and know that in exchange, something new will come forth. A fresh anointing, fresh revelation, and a new song of victory. I thank you, Lord, and I pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
