We often have so many plans. We have goals and dreams and desires that we put before the Lord. And we earnestly pray for those things, believing in our heart that God hears us, knows what we need, and will provide. But what if what you desire isn't necessarily what He has planned for you?
What if His plans are distinctly different, very uncomfortable, and outside of the scope of what you feel is necessary for your life journey? This is where our trust and faith is truly put to the test when faced with uncomfortable situations and circumstances, our ability to lean not to our own understanding, but follow God is tested.
It is not just tested, it is proven. And the proving of our faith is more precious than gold. As God begins to show us new ways and new paths to walk out His glory, everything around us feels challenging. It feels uncomfortable. It feels like a stretching because it's supposed to feel like a stretching. Faith is not comfortable.
Faith stretches us beyond our understanding and our current circumstances. The comfort zone falls away and the glory of God becomes preeminent. When we trust in Him and walk with Him, others should feel moved by our living faith. Not faith in just what we say, but faith in what we do and how we do it.
So no, it's not over. No, the end of this thing may be the end of what you have created with your own hands. The ending may be the end of a season, not necessarily the end of the assignment. The ending of a thing may feel very uncomfortable, but may be the blessing that you've been praying for dressed up in overalls, dressed up in discomfort, and dressed up in feeling like failure because what you had planned didn't work.
The plans you had didn't go forth, but God's plans are still unwrapping. God's plans are there and active. The word of the Lord will not fail. His plans are preeminent. His plans and His thoughts and His ways are higher. We see this in the scripture that says that His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Because of this shift and because of this mindset, we can begin to truly trust in God. So Isaiah 58:8-9:
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Bearing this scripture in mind, our ways and our thoughts will see something as the end. We'll see it as if it's over. We will see a valley full of dry bones and God will tell us, in the end of it, to breathe life, to speak the word, to believe in Him, and to know that these dry bones will live and not die.
What may look like the end of a thing may be the beginning of another when you trust in God. When you trust in Him, you surrender completely. Your ways, your understanding, and your limits fall away. In the place of those things, God's ways, God's unlimited power, and His undeniable love become evident, not just to you, but to those around you.
Demonstration is God's love and action for His body and for the world because it is a demonstration of the word of the Lord and of the power of God that shows us a different level of faith. It expands us in ways we can't even understand, but we can always be grateful for.
We see this when Peter walks on water and at the completion of that task, we see that the 11 who remained in the boat, who already were believers in Jesus Christ and were His disciples were amazed and their faith was deepened. When we go to Matthew chapter 14:33 in the King James version, it says:
Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. - Matthew 14:33 KJV
Yes, Peter had just walked on water. They had just seen a miraculous move of God through Peter's faith and the power of the word of Jesus saying “Come”. And their first reaction was to go to Jesus after seeing the miracle that He did in the first part of chapter 14 and say “of a truth, thou art the son of God.”
Their faith was moved. Their belief was deepened via demonstration. Again, demonstration is the heart of the Father to guide us into truth and to open us up to deeper understanding.
And for those who are the water walkers, those who believe, those who step out on what should be unsolid ground and continue walking despite logic and despite human understanding, those are the ones that we can look to in order to know that when we come to the end of ourselves, we come to the beginning of something supernatural.
When we get to the end of our own ability and continue to press into His presence, we get the glory of the Lord made manifest in the earth. We get miracles, signs, and wonders. We get breakthrough. We get the miraculous. We know in our hearts that it may seem like the end to our flesh, but that there is more if we'll just go to the one who created all of the earth and everyone in it.
If we can trust in Him and see the favor of God, maybe just maybe, we can be the light to others.
Closing Devotional Prayer
My prayer for you: Father in the name of Jesus, I thank you for the mighty woman of God. Even though this devotional is going out late in the evening, I pray that right where she is, as she begins to either hear this or read it, God, I pray God that the glory of the Lord goes forth over her. There is nothing, God, that you cannot do.
I thank you for the persistent word of the Lord, which does not fail. I thank you, God, for being a keeper. I thank you for being Jireh. I thank you, God, that you are the creator of the universe, so God, Lord, I thank you for the breaker over this mighty woman of God's life. I thank you, God, that she is seeing all the troubles and the trials a little differently tonight.
Lord, I thank you that the proving of her faith, which is more precious than gold, is going forth. Oh, God, as a blessing, that she would begin to bless your holy name for the trials and the circumstances which strengthen her faith and deepen her walk with you.
I thank you, Lord, God, that it is not over. It is not the end. We celebrate God with things, the end to our flesh, and I thank you, God, for the spirit seeing something new. I thank you, God, that by faith, we will receive fresh revelations, and by faith, we'll receive the love of God in the new season, in this new day, that everything else will pass away, for your love remains. I thank you, Lord, and I pray in Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
