Today’s Devotional Scripture: 3 So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.
4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
5 And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
7 And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
8 And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. - 1 Samuel 30:3-8 KJV
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. - Luke 10:40-42 KJV

There is a good part that God has for you. There is a peace that He has in store for you. There’s a weighty glory that He has for you that can only be received in His presence. It can only be received by His Spirit. There is nothing that can stop the Lord from blessing you, except for you not being in position to be blessed.
Wherever you are, God is for He has decreed that He will never leave you and never forsake you. This is the word of the Lord, that He is always with us. The Spirit of the Lord is at work within us. However, when we are like Martha, cumbered about, frustrated, preparing, doing the good work, all of it can almost seem like too much.
It can get extremely overwhelming knowing what to do, what to prioritize, which way to go as you begin to build, as you create. And many are unaccustomed to being still in the midst of transitions and in the midst of changing circumstances. And in those moments, the Lord says, There is a good thing, there’s a good portion, and nobody will take it from you.
However, you can give it away.
You can release your time moment by moment, yes by yes, task by task. You can give that time over to situations, circumstances, and urgent situations that need your attention. These things are always pulling on us. Between the notifications on our phones, the alerts from our banks, and the things that are happening on the news and the rumors of war and actual war, there are so many things that grab our attention.
So many things that need us to be there, to be available, to be ready, to have our hands to the plow. It’s easy to forget that God never meant for us to be so busy that we don’t have time to be still and to know Him.
It can wait. The to‑do list can wait.
The tasks can wait, the alerts can wait, and notifications can be placed on silent. God has something more that you can only receive once you rest in His presence. Once you give your heart and mind the ability to sit with the word, to meditate on the Word day and night, that you will have good success and make your way prosperous.
To sit before the Lord, to be still, to sit at the feet of Jesus proverbially, to sit at His feet and rest in peace and devotional time, in scripture, in being still and sitting and resting and looking at the ocean, at the lake, at the beach, at the park, at the street, at the yard. It seems that this only happens when many of us get older, that we enjoy the porches of our lives.
We enjoy the moments that God gives us to rest. We enjoy sitting and listening and letting life flow its merry way. But don’t wait until you are later in your years. Don’t wait until it seems like there’s no more work to be done. Do it now. Prioritize that time before the Lord now.
Step into that good portion that no person can take away from you. They can only convince you that it’s not worth you having that private time with God. They can only manipulate you into always being busy. They can only get you to say yes over and over again, to assignment and task after task after task. But there is a good time before the Lord.
There is a peace. And it’s not just when we are exhausted.
It’s when we’re fresh, when we’re at the top of our day. It’s when we’re at our lunchtime. It’s when we decide to sit on the park bench, when we decide to sit on the beach, when we decide to sit in our living room, and be still.
When we decide to sit at the kitchen table and let everything rest for just a little while. Sitting before the presence of the Lord our God, knowing that He’s mighty to save, mighty to deliver, and mighty to set free. Everything else can wait. It can wait.
The task, the issues, the need for an immediate answer. The immediate answer can wait. The Lord is good. You don’t always need to say yes immediately or say no immediately. Sometimes it’s good just to sit before the Lord. It’s good to rest. Yes, tasks will be there, the dishes will be there, the sink will be there.
Everything will be there. But rest before the Lord, be still before our God, and know that He is El Shaddai. Don’t get so caught up in doing and so caught up in having everything under control that you forget that life is not in your control. It is a gift from God to be enjoyed, to be grateful for, to be embraced and experienced in real time.
Not looking back over a life that you wish you could have slowed down in, that you wish you could have rested more in, where you wish you could have spent more time with the little ones, or you wish you could have spent more time with the love of your life.
Rest. Be still and know.
Rest and just experience the joy of being yourself in the moment, of loving the heart that God has given you, of nourishing the body that he’s given you, of giving your mind something to do that is not work, that is not task, but is merely creation and faith and love, is breathing and putting your mind on these things.
For the Bible tells us to think on these things: whatever is good, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good report, think on these things. That requires being seated. It requires rest. It requires being intentional. It requires maybe walking with God if being seated is not your thing. But whatever it is that you do to commune with your God, be still before the Lord and know that He is God in the midst.
He is with you, and He’s waiting on you to rest.
Closing Devotional Prayer
My prayer for you:
Father, in the name of Jesus: thank you. Thank you, Lord God. Thank you for the goodness of the Lord. Thank you for the favor of God. Lord, you are good, you are mighty, and you are more than enough. Thank you for being a conqueror, O God. I thank you, God, that you’ve won the battle so we don’t have to win them again and again.
We can just trust in you. We can wait. We can be still and know that you are our great God. You are our Father, the lover of our souls, the keeper of our hearts and our minds. I thank you, Lord God, for the mighty woman of God. And I thank you for the peace forevermore, Lord.
I thank you for the peace that surpasses all understanding. I thank you, God, for the mighty woman of God being at rest, for her mind being covered and being blessed, where everything that is not like you can break. And in this place, O God, the grace and the glory of God can cover her and bless her, to be there for her as she rests. I thank you, Lord, and I pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
