Today’s Devotional Scripture: 21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. - James 1:21 KJV
The Message For Today (October 6, 2024):
Audio Version Of This Devotional: In His Word Audio
This scripture is particularly a corrective scripture in the Bible. To see what the Lord advises through scripture here, to see how he reminds the people here, to lay aside all confusion, to lay aside all filthiness, to lay aside all superfluity of naughtiness.
These things are all forms of sin. To lay aside every weight, to lay it aside and to give God everything. This breakdown is so beautifully demonstrated as instruction to save our souls that we would be saved. Maybe you aren't essentially operating in the “superfluity of naughtiness”. Maybe it's not as bad as you operating in filthiness, but it could be you operating outside of the will of God.
Operating below your privileges and essentially walking in a life that doesn't fully demonstrate the power of God. Lay aside everything that places you outside of the grace of God, that places you outside of the promises, which are yes and amen.
Lay aside every pride,
lay aside doubt,
lay aside insecurities,
lay these things down and pick up your cross and follow Jesus.
This is the time to come into complete submission and trust that the Lord knows the things that you need, that he knows the singular thought of purpose. He knows that your mind is made up to live and to build all that God has called you. This scripture is simply saying to cast away the weight, cast away the fear, cast away the shame and be present so that the heart and mind can remain lined up.
It was David who said, Lord, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. - Psalm 51:10-11 KJV
It was David who made his request of the Lord because he understood that his heart is deceitful. He understood that the heart can say one thing and a made-up mind say another. So to pray before the Lord and to ask for a clean heart and a right spirit were very strategic because he did not want the grace of God to leave his life.
He didn't want the favor of God to leave his life. He didn't want for the hand of the Lord to be lifted from his heart. So when he says, “create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit in me”, the very next verse in verse 11 says, cast me not away from thy presence and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. This is saying, “Lord, cover me and don't lift your hand from my life. Restore me and renew a right spirit that if anything be out of your will, it can be now brought forth in your will”.
This is the season to let go of every old thing and say yes to completely trusting the Lord over your life, family, finances, freedom. Your sovereignty depends on you trusting in the Lord and knowing that His word never fails. In His word, you are being shaped and crafted for the finished work of the Lord. In this case, the title of this devotional is In His Word. You begin to see based on this scripture that as you are in His word, that the word of the Lord can be engrafted to you and your soul can be restored by that engrafting.
The word has the power to transform your thinking, transform your life, heal every bit of brokenness and all come forth inside of laying aside every weight and being intentional about the praise and about the blessings of the Lord. Being intentional around letting go of every old thing, being present and being reminded every day that you can change everything.
The word of the Lord is like a double-edged sword cleaving soul from spirit. Give God the weight and allow there to be a breaking. Give God the weight and come into deeper relationship and the knowledge of God. For every thought, every bit of the order of our lives being less than what the Lord has called us to. These aspects, this filthiness, these naughtiness, this arresting, this self-sabotage, this overthinking; all of these things are constantly at war.
But when you have a made-up mind and a heart to shift something, you will make ways to will make ways out of no way. You will see the power of God. You will see that salvation is well, but it is that connection of you being in the presence of the Lord that goes beyond salvation. It is the word made manifest over your life. When you are sitting under the scripture and you're waiting on the next step, the Lord says he's engrafting his world and that your life will never be the same.
Closing Devotional Prayer
My prayer for you, Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank you. I thank you for the mighty woman of God. I thank you for shifting everything that's not like you, not by might, not by power, but by your spirit, Lord. I thank you for shifting the environment. I thank you that ways are being made, that there is a breaking coming forth for this mighty woman of God, and that she is laying aside every weight, laying aside all manner of things, compromise, living below her privileges, God.
Lower thinking, limited thought. Lord, I thank you right now that the liberty is coming, and that Lord, where there's Jesus, there's liberty, and where there is liberty, there is increase. I thank you for increase. I thank you for true freedom.
I thank you, Lord God, for this mighty woman of God, stepping fully into her God identity and trusting that you can order her steps. You can make ways out of nowhere. Today can be the beginning of her turnaround. Today will be the beginning of something new. Thank you, Lord, and I pray in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
