Most of us can recall the exact details of the moment we said yes to Jesus. The moment we became a believer and said, “Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, I pray.” And as promised, He entered in, and through no effort of our own, made us new.
Through our complete surrender and unshakable faith, we entered into a divine relationship with our Creator.
God of Heaven and Earth
You have been given the gift of eternal life and an intimate relationship with the Creator of the universe.
You now call the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Father.
Who are we that He would choose to love us this much?
The Creator of the universe, who hung each star and placed every grain of sand, is the same God who thought of you! While He was forming the oceans, he planned to knit you together in your mother’s womb.
Though we are here for but a blink, our God, for whom space and time stand still, desires to spend that blink in time with you.
“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16)
It doesn’t matter if you became a Christian 40 years ago or 4 days ago, or maybe somewhere along the way you forgot who you are in Him; every day we are given is another day He wants to spend with you.
Too often, the beauty of our first love gets buried under the weight of life’s hardships, the expectations of others, or becomes more routine than a relationship. Today, I ask you to step back into the shoes of the you who first said, “Yes.”
What was that version of you thinking and feeling?
What realization led you there?
What weights were lifted that you might have picked back up along the way?
He is more than able to restore our first love, the foundations of our faith, and the joy of our salvation.
We can never be too old, too Christian, or too far gone to take His hand and spend a moment in time in childlike faith with Him.
Jesus tells us that to receive the kingdom of God as a little child is the only way to enter therein. (Mark 10:15 KJV), He is guiding us back to our childlike faith. He asks us to value what the world does not and to see beyond the natural. He shows us that His Kingdom flips the natural world’s viewpoint upside down.
Shifting Focus
As we devote our time to Him today, may we remember that for everything the enemy slings our way, we are equipped with more than enough positive ammunition through praise. With praise, we shift the atmosphere and our perspective. We also remind that he is defeated; he has already lost the battle.
This is particularly true when we praise Him in the midst of a storm. We are telling God and the enemy that we refuse to focus on what is happening around us. We have set our eyes on the one who calms the wind and waves with a single word. This raw sacrifice has the power to touch the heart of our Father and set demons to flight.
In worship, we sit at His feet, with adoration, awe and wonder; our eyes can’t help but focus on Him. Any lingering self-focus vanishes, and we are reminded that the weight of this world is not ours to carry. He is more than faithful and able to dry every tear, heal every wound, and inspire us again.
So today, as we meditate on His word and set our minds on Him, may we sit at His feet and gaze upon His face in adoration and with eyes of wonder.
Closing Devotional Prayer
My prayer for you:
Heavenly Father, we adore you!
Bring us back to the moment you first called us yours. Show us Your heart, and what You long to tell us today. Who do you want to be for us right now? Bring us back to the foundations, to the faith of a child, and show us what it looks like to walk that out.
Help us to see every situation from your point of view, with hearts wide open, full of possibilities, and knowing that you have already provided us with all we need to cancel every assignment of the enemy. Reveal what is not only probable but possible through you today, in Your Kingdom.
As we go about our week, reveal the hopes, dreams, and visions we might have lost sight of, the ones You want us to pick up. Show us what we’re still holding onto that you want us to leave at your feet. For we know you are a good, good Father who desires us to abide in the fullness of you, which is abundantly greater than we could ask or think.
May we commune with Your Holy Spirit throughout the day, as You restore our first love and the foundations of our faith, in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
