Today’s Devotional Scripture: In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.

6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. - Isaiah 6:1-7 KJV

In the cornerstone scripture, we see that the prophet is receiving a vision. And the vision is of the Lord in his temple in heaven. He’s seeing this in Isaiah, but we also see this similarity in Revelation, where you can see the elders are before the Lord, before the throne of God (Revelation 4:10-11 KJV).

And they’re laying down their crowns constantly, so that the scripture in Isaiah and Revelation are explaining an environment saturated with worship and saturated with praise. This environment is so full of glory that the seraphim are flying, and they’re crying out, holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts.

So we’re seeing in this scripture, this picture of heaven opened up to us. We’re seeing the prophet receive the live coal on his lips, and that the iniquity is then taken away, and the sin purged. So we see the healing of iniquity and sin break off of Isaiah, and we see it is because of this vision. We see that it’s because the power of the Lord, and we see that Isaiah did not do this on his own.

This was a place of complete surrender, complete trust. Isaiah saw the glory of the Lord, and he was amazed. He was shocked. He was reverent. He understood that there’s nothing that we can do that could make us worthy of the majesty of God. He loves us, and that is it. In all of our perfections, in all of our mistakes, and all of our missteps, He loves us.

In all of our wrong thinking, and all of our ambitiousness, our driving, and our looking to go and build and grow, the Lord is showing us that we are imperfect, and we know that we are unworthy. So we see Isaiah in verse number five say, he’s a man of unclean lips, and that he’s surrounded by people who have the same issue.
