We think, and we plan. We focus on what we should say. We take notes. We attempt to spell out the script. We have the bullet points. And we do this in our everyday lives as well. We know the year by which we want to do it. We have the deadline dates in mind. We have the vision for how we desire for our lives to go.
Above all of that, there is a will that belongs to the Lord. There is a plan that He has for you, and that plan is to give you a hope and a future, not to harm you. That’s what it tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 in the King James Version. It tells us that God knows the plans that He has for us.
So, when we desire to know those plans before we act, we are naturally responding with our human heart versus one full of faith. We’re naturally responding with the need to know, with the desire for assurance. We’re wanting firm ground in which we can feel confident, but this is not faith. Faith is not confident that you have it all together or that you know exactly what you’re doing, and you know exactly which way you’re going.
Because if you knew that, why would you need God? Faith is so much more than us knowing ourselves or knowing what to do or knowing the plan. Faith is sight unseen. Faith is going without knowing. We see this in Hebrews 11:1 in the King James Version when it states:
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. - Hebrews 11:1 KJV
