Today’s Devotional Scripture: 6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
7 And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the Lord hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.
8 And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

Audio Version Of This Devotional: God Is With You Audio
This scripture is well known. It is a source of comfort for so many of us who believe in the Lord our God, and who know that the power of the Holy Spirit is at rest within us. We look to this word as a reminder that God will be with us always. However, that does not negate us walking through the issues of life. It doesn't preclude us from enduring hardship, loss, betrayal, unworthiness, and fear.
This scripture, which states “Be strong and of good courage, fear not…” as it's opening parry is a powerful reminder that life is not going to always be easy. God does not promise that it's going to be easy. Nothing in His word promises an easy life. His word promises that he will always be with us despite the losses, setbacks, despite the pain, despite the issues of life, and the heaviness of it, the sins of our fellow man, our own missteps and mistakes. Despite all of that, He is still God and he is with us.
The scripture is a reminder that through the ups and downs on this roller coaster called life, God can be our safety. He is our seatbelt when we're going 80 miles an hour and when it feels like we're at the lowest point of our lives. He is right there with us, walking with us through the issues of life. Oftentimes, people are led to ask,
“How could a loving God do this? How could a loving God allow this? I don't believe in God because of the great losses in all the world.”
It's almost as if we forget that humanity is falling. From the time that Adam and Eve were ejected from the garden to now, humanity has made its own choices because God has granted us free will. The pain that we've endured, the calamity in the earth, the people who turned against their fellow human beings, destructive forces in the earth; all of these things have a purpose. All of these things are the fruit of the decisions that we've all made, good and bad. Right or wrong.
It doesn't mean there isn't a God. It doesn't mean that God is not with us. It means that we cling to Him ever the more as we walk through the journeys of life. As we walk through the side roads, the pits, the valleys, the highs. It all belongs to God. Whether we're on the mountaintop or whether we're in the valley, God is still God alone and his love will never fail us. He is faithful to look for us. He's faithful to seek us. He's faithful to answer our call.
The Bible says to call on the Lord and that he will answer. The scripture says in Romans 10 13, for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. - Romans 10:13 KJV
It also states in Psalms 91:15, he shall call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. - Psalms 91:15 KJV
Yet another scripture that supports this is Isaiah 58:9. Then you will call and the Lord will answer. You will cry for help and he will say here I am.
9 Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; - Isaiah 58:9 KJV
Last but not least, Jeremiah 33:3 states call to me and I will answer you. I'll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.
3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. - Jeremiah 33:3 KJV
All of these things are testimonies to the glory of God. All of these things are evidence that God is with us always. We don't have to fret or worry or be afraid. Yes, life gets hard. Yes, bad things happen to good people. Yes, there's death and there's destruction and there's fear in the earth. But God is still there. God is still with us and the moment we push him away or we feel like he's not there or he's not faithful, the enemy wins.
The enemy convinces us that because we don't have a perfect life that God must not be with us. That is a lie. He is always with us forever. He will never leave us nor forsake us. But again, it doesn't excuse or relieve us of the responsibility of walking out this life in the world even though we are not of it. So seeing losses, seeing pain, seeing things that take our breath away that we wish we could change; those things are a natural part of being human.
But what makes this supernatural is that we have the God that created the universe that we can turn to, that we can pray to knowing that he will answer, that he is with us, that he will deliver us, that he will heal pains, and he will show us how to walk things out. Whether we're walking through the valley of the shadow of death or whether we're walking through the best seasons of our lives, he is still God. He is still with us and he would never forsake you.
