Audio Version Of This Devotional: Follow The River Audio
The river of God is the presence of the Holy Spirit. It is the power of God being released through prayer, through praise, through fasting and worship. The river and this scripture in Psalm 46:4 represents the flow of God into the Dead Sea and into the Mediterranean Sea.
This scripture, which speaks of the river that's going to bring gladness, that's going to bring healing, this scripture very clearly describes this river as a source of something. In the previous scripture, verses 3, it says, though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof, Salah.
3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. - Psalm 46:3 KJV
It talks about the waters that roarING and be troubled, but then it very suddenly shifts to there being a river and that the streams shall make glad the city and in the holy places as well. So these streams are not limited to just being in the valley, but these waters, these rivers, these streams are going to make glad the city of God or streams there in the places that God set them in, in the high places in Christ Jesus.
The scripture goes on to say in verse 5, God is in the midst of her. She shall not be moved. God shall help her in that right early. This beautiful breakdown of verses 3 through 5 in the King James Version gives a bigger story that, yes, God is a blessing. He is our source, but when we get to verse 4, very specifically, he talks about the rivers and the streams, not the roaring of the troubled waters.
He's discussing rivers and streams making glad, bringing joy, bringing happiness into the city of God. This is a place that we're going to be called to. And this scripture is prophesying to what that looks like. So when we read these in another version, which is the message version, it says, “God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him”. We stand fearless at the cliff edge of doom, courageous in sea storm and earthquake, before the Russian war of oceans, the tremors that shift us, that shift mountains.
Jacob wrestling God fights for us, God of angel armies protect us. And in verse 4 it reads, river fountains splash joy, cooling God's city. This sacred haunt of the most high. This is where the Lord lives. It's time to get into a different position with Christ Jesus. To get into a place where His presence prevails over all of the noise in the atmosphere. To get to a place where you hear him even above your own emotions and fears.
To get to that place where the word of the Lord reigns supreme and your life becomes a living sacrifice and a demonstration. This is what it means to follow the river, is to follow the presence of the living God until you can see the flow that he's calling you to in this season. So following the river in Psalm 46 looks like just recognizing that it was there to make the city full of joy and to place the tabernacles in the midst of it. So this life, this river that brings forth these streams, that brings forth this life, that is bringing forth this transformation, this healing.
These are rivers that flow from the throne, that flow from the power of spirit, they flow from heaven and they are here now for us to walk into and to step into. It's time to pick up the mantle to follow the river in your life. What is it that God has called you to? What is the mission, the dreams, the vision that you've been waiting on? It doesn't need any cosign, all it needs is you, it needs you to step fully into it.
The vision is waiting on you, it's not waiting on God. The vision shall come to pass, can you not perceive it? The Lord is bringing forth revelation, he's bringing forth power, he's bringing forth this mighty right arm. This is what the rivers look like. To seek them out, to search them out, to follow the river. Not because you're looking for something, but because of who you become in the process.
You're following the river, the river of joy, the river of peace, the river of where God is sending you next to work. All of these things are part of the river and the Lord answers and through you provides an answer for others as well. So not only does he answer your concerns, the things that concern your heart, but he addresses the things externally that also may be impacting you right where you are.
Follow the river today, don't get lost inside of all the things in this world that so easily beset us. Release those things, like it says in Matthew chapter 11 verse 28 to 30, cast your cares upon him and he will care for you. To cast your cares, to cast every weight is to throw it off of you and to give it to God. So this may take a little bit of steadfastness, this may take you committing to being immovable, but this will undoubtedly take more.
And so I give God the glory for this shift. I thank him for the outpouring. I thank him for the breath of God. Lord, in my prayer for you, Father, I thank you that the mighty woman of God is now shifting, that she's stepping into deeper revelation of God. She's being mindful, God, I thank you, God, that the grace and the glory is coming upon her life supernaturally, oh God.
According to this word, oh God, that she will follow the river of living water, that she will follow the flow, that she would trust in you completely, that you may see the finished work of the Lord in the land of the living. I thank God right now for this shift. I thank you that He's stepping fully into this and that there is a breaker's anointing coming forth here and now.
Thank you, Lord, for the mighty woman of God. Thank you for those who are only up to pray. Thank you for surrounding them now in the name of Jesus. And if you leave this room, God, we'll never leave your presence. I'm praying, God, that you would have your way over the mighty woman of God. Break away everything that's not like you. I thank you, Lord, and I pray in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
