Today’s Devotional Scripture: 12 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. - Hebrews 12:1-2 KJV

Audio Version Of This Devotional: Follow The Light Audio
There is a straight and narrow path to following God. It is not always easy, it's not always clear, and sometimes we're taking that path step by intentionally set step. So whether that be intentionally set according to the time, essentially set according to your assignment, or maybe it is essentially being set according to the will of the Father for how he desires to use you.
Either way, the path is set. In this scripture we see that the writer is admonishing the listener, you and I, to look to Jesus who walked out our faith as a demonstration. So Jesus is the “author and the finisher”. He helps to craft our faith and makes it so that it comes to an expected end. And so in His demonstration, it says in verse 2 of chapter 12, that for the joy that was set before him, he endured the cross, the pain of it, despising the shame, and is now set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
It may not feel good or it may feel almost religious to say that we are to endure our walks and the pain and frustration that may come with them just so we can see the other side of it; just so we can see goodness. But it's not truly religious. It is the natural order of things. For you to achieve anything in the natural takes a process. Nothing is materially and spontaneously erupted in midair. Even an idea takes writing, drawing out a map, and then finishing the tangible pieces being placed together.
Everything is a process. Likewise, your growth and how you walk with God is a process. So the process, the endurance, and the perfecting that we endure is for the glory of the Lord. But it is also that we may see the joy that is set before us. It is that we may be in places of authority. It's that we may be made ready for the assignments that God has given us. We must follow the light in order that we may see clearly.
Oftentimes we pray and ask God for clarity, but here you see that when we look to His word and we walk with him, even times of cloudiness and doubt and uncertainty can be guided by the light of the Lord. In the midst of those times of uncertainty, the light of the Lord and his word is true.
It can be a lamp.
It can be a guidepost.
It can guide us to the finish line faster than our own strength and power could ever do.
Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord.
6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. - Zechariah 4:6 KJV
Those words to Zerubbabel, through Zachariah, were meant to be an encouragement that even though Zerubbabel was a strong servant of the Lord, that it would still take the spirit of God to walk with him, to show him, and to give him victory. Perhaps this day in the devotional is a reminder to trust God, to walk with him, and to essentially follow the light.
Good times, bad times, and every time in between, they all belong to God and we are walking these things out step by step and day by day. There's no need to know the end. There's no need to have every answer. Simply follow the light of life. Follow the lily in the alley. Look to His life. Study the scriptures through John, Luke, Matthew, Mark. Look how He walked out times of uncertainty and fear. For he became flesh that we could see the finished work. He became flesh so that we could be reconciled back to God.
There was a purpose in the plan behind this light and there's a purpose in the plan behind yours as well. Let's go. Let's trust God and let's follow him.
Closing Devotional Prayer
My prayer for you: Father, in the name of Jesus, thank you so much for the mighty woman of God. Thank you, God, for this mighty word this day. I thank you for the grace and the glory over this devotional, God. As she is listening, no matter what time of the year or season, as this devotional touches her life, I pray in the name of Jesus that she would recognize the season that she is in, that it is time for her to take action and to trust you.
It's time for her to follow you, God, because you're moving. Psalm 23:6 says that we follow you, that we're guided by you, that with you our cup runs over, and that goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our life, as long as we're following you. I thank you, oh God, that the mighty woman of God is ready to walk with you. She's ready to trust you completely.
Every weight that so easily besets her, God, let it be laid aside now in the name of Jesus. Unforgiveness, bitterness, frustration, anger, regret, and things that we wish we could change. Control, attempting to control everything, and forcing things into our own expectations. Lord, we lay these character issues and we lay these fears at the cross and we say yes.
Yes to your will, oh God, and yes to your way, yes to the finished work of the Lord. Lord, we thank you for shifting each and every one of us. I thank you that the mighty woman of God is ready, God, to walk this thing out, to run on in the name of Jesus. That Lord God, as every woman is listening to this, I pray, God, that you would remind her of the dreams, oh God, that life attempted to strip from her.
Remind her, oh God, of the mission you've called her to. Remind her, oh God, that you are God and that there is nothing too hard for you. With man this may be impossible, but with you, oh God, all things are possible. So I thank you, Lord, that the mighty woman of God is ready to enter into a spirit-filled all things are possible season.
I thank you, God, that every weight is coming down and that the glory of the Lord is being revealed through her life. I thank you, Lord, and I pray in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
