Today’s Devotional Scripture: 14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
15 Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
18 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
- Daniel 6:14-18 KJV

Audio Version Of This Devotional: Breaking Bread Audio
In this scripture, we see that Daniel is challenged because he prays to God. There was a decree that went out that if any request be made of any man or any god outside of the king, that there would be punishment. Now in Daniel chapter 6, the scripture notes that Daniel was above reproach, that he had a spirit of excellence, and that those that were jealous of him decided to attempt to catch him doing something amiss.
So in this case, the decree was the key. In violating the decree with praying and worshiping God, Daniel put himself in the line of fire. The only way they could challenge him and get rid of him was to use a decree and to remind the king that the decree was above all. When the king heard it, it says here that when he heard the words in verse number 14, that he was displeased with himself because he realized immediately that he was used in a way to attempt to get rid of a man of excellence.
14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him. - Daniel 6:14 KJV
So even though the decree could not be changed and Daniel was placed in the den of lions, the king committed his heart in verse 18 to fast on behalf of Daniel. We've seen in scripture where God has come to the rescue of his people, where he delivered the three Hebrew boys that were cast into the fire for their worship, where he delivered all of the children of Israel that were under King Persia through the actions of Esther.
We see where the Lord has delivered the people of God over and over again in scripture from the attempt of the enemy. We see it. In this scripture, the same situation arises because of Daniel's worship, because he served the Lord, and because he made requests of the Lord. That prayer, that diligence, that faithfulness to prayer, that righteous act of praying to God and doing it continuously caused him to be placed in a situation where his life was now on the line.
The decree came from those who were jealous because they knew Daniel to be a worshipper. King Darius signed it. He co-signed the decree. So the trap was laid. However, there was a purpose behind this. There was a purpose behind them being able to bring Daniel up before the king for worshiping God and for his diligence and prayer.
Breaking bread in this instance is literally breaking the body, the representation of Jesus Christ. We see in scripture where God commands us to break bread. We see it in 1 Corinthians chapter 11, verse 24 through 25 in the King James Version, which reads:
24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. - 1 Corinthians 11:24-25 KJV
Yet another example of worship. We do it in remembrance, do it in worship. We see the breaking of bread here in 1 Corinthians, Chapter 11. However, this is also what happened here inside of Daniel chapter 6. The king in Daniel chapter 6:18, committed his heart:
18 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him. - Daniel 6:18 KJV
In his concern for Daniel and how he was unwittingly used by the men of the kingdom to attempt to get rid of Daniel, his decision to go into a fast was worship. We see in this scripture where worship is the key. Fasting earnestly before the Lord on behalf of Daniel is what the king did. Now we know the scripture to be that Daniel was not consumed in the lion's den, but we cannot ignore the power of the king deciding to put away his bread, to worship, to fast in supplication to the Lord on Daniel's behalf.
Breaking the bread, fasting, and worship in those forms, dealing with food, dealing with eating, and dealing with the breaking is the way that we honor God. We do it. We fast in supplication to the Lord. We break the bread in remembrance of the Lord. These are all forms of worship. We honor the Lord our God. When we break the bread, we honor the Lord when we fast.
We honor him. We make supplication. We do it in remembrance. In this scripture, we see that although Daniel was surrounded by the lions, we see that he was surrounded by not just the lions in the den, but the lions outside of it. Those who desired to see him fail. They were jealous of the excellency. They desired to set a trap, which they believed to be successful, but they counted and they miscounted the power of worship.
The power of going before the Lord, fasting, breaking the bread, and doing it in remembrance of God. They discounted the power of the Lord. Right now in your everyday life, you may be encountering situations that feel overwhelming. It feels like there are issues on every side. It feels like there's heaviness and there's weight. It feels like there's resistance to all the things that God has called it to.
It seems like there's limits on your success, almost as if there are lines in place to keep you from growing and to keep you from expanding your territory. To keep you from operating in the fullness of God and to keep you from operating in the Holy Spirit impact that God has called you to for the expansion of his kingdom.
These lions, these principalities, and these things that desire to undermine your faith in the attempt to take you away from your walk with God. These things must bow when you break the bread. When you turn down your plate, when you fast, when you pray, and when you go into communion which is breaking the bread and in the same manner taking the cup.
When you do these things, you are prioritizing worship in the form that God has given you to follow him. whether it be communion, whether it be fasting, and whether it be prayer. All of these things are the weapons that are discussed in 2nd Corinthians chapter 10:3-5. In 2nd Corinthians 10:3-5, it decrees:
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; - 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 KJV
Every fear, every doubt, and every insecurity has to break before him. They must come under the obedience of Christ when we operate in these weapons of our warfare. These weapons of our warfare are prayer, breaking of the bread, fasting, worshiping God, praise, worship and prayer in song. Lifting up God above every situation and casting down all imagination. These are things that the Lord has called us to do through weapons that are spiritual, not earthly, and not of this world, but of his spirit.
The Bible decrees that these things only come out by fasting and prayer.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. - Matthew 17:21 KJV
God has placed you in a different season. This season requires trust, it requires faith, and it requires different weapons. Not by might, not by power, but by God's spirit. We begin to see things move and shift. In Isaiah, 58:6 in the King James version, it reads:
6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? - Isaiah 58:6 KJV
It sounds like that's what happened when the King in Daniel 6:18 committed to fasting. The bands of the enemy, the wicked princes and the wicked leaders that wanted to get rid of Daniel. The trap that they had laid became loose, that the bands of wickedness were broken, the heavy burdens were lifted, and in the end Daniel was set free. Don't discount the power of breaking the bread in your life.
Don't discount the power of worshiping God through the weapons of our warfare which are not carnal. Don't let go. This is where you put the war and worship. This is where you begin to see things turn around for your family, for your life, and for your finances. This is where liberty comes for when we trust Him.
Closing Devotional Prayer
My prayer for you, Father in the name of Jesus, thank you for the mighty woman of God. Thank you for shifting the very atmosphere. Thank you for the weighted glory. There is nobody like you. I thank you for being a keeper. I thank you for the shift.
I thank you for the empowerment of the Holy Ghost. Lord, you are good and your mercy endures forever. I thank you for the breakers’ anointing here and now. I thank you for the favor of God. I thank you that the mighty woman of God is going to step into the weapons of her warfare, our God. She's going to step into the power of prayer.
She's going to move in the power of her praise. She's going to worship you in song and dance. Lord, I thank you that the mighty woman of God is going to step into fasting as led by your spirit, and that God's communion and breaking of the bread will be a part of her portion. Lord, I thank you right now for the breaking. I thank you for the restoration. I thank you for the peace.
I thank you, Lord, for the joy. Nothing missing, nothing broken. Lord, God, have your way, King of glory. I thank you for the shift. I thank you for the outpouring. I thank you for movement. I thank you for grace and for glory, for you are God alone. Thank you for shifting the environment. Thank you, God, that the way to glory is coming forth.
Your will be done, not hers, O God. Your will be done in every facet of her life. Let her release the heavy burdens. Let her release the weights that so easily beset us. And Lord, I pray that she will come into the place of submitting and trusting in you. I thank you, Lord, and I pray in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
