Today’s Devotional Scripture: 13 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.
14 And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them.
15 And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the Lord thy God. - Amos 9:13-15 KJV

After the years of struggle, losses, frustration, and pain, it may seem like you just have to adjust to a new normal. In fact, that is the normal response. You look at the issues of life, look at the decisions that were made, and sort of make lemonade out of your lemons.
These sayings, these colloquialisms, these things that encourage us to just make the best of what we have are meant to be encouraging. They’re meant to help us to be rooted and grounded in a world that seems heavy, distracting, overwhelming, and bereft of the love and the power of God.
When you consider that you can’t change anything in the past, being connected and resting in the ashes of old decisions is an unintentional consequence. When it feels like you’ve already made mistakes and it’s been too long, or you’ve already dealt with health issues and the best you can do is just try to hold on, looking for the miracle becomes less and less likely.
This is why the Lord has called us in times of trial to turn to Him and to pray and to seek His face, and then know that He is God and that He will make a way.
When we look at our lives, and we look at all that we’ve gone through and all that we’ve endured, we can look to Amos and see something similar. We can see that there was judgment, there was long-suffering, and that there were warnings for the people of Israel all through Amos 9, Amos, Chapters 1 through 8. But right around chapter 9, things begin to change.
