The Message For Today (September 19, 2024):
Audio Version Of This Devotional: Awake and Look Up Audio
Wake up! Today is a brand new day, and His mercies are new every morning. When He speaks the words, “awake, thou that sleepest”, in this scripture, he is not speaking specifically to people who were in bed and maybe a little drowsy and waking up and need their morning coffee. No, He's speaking to those who are walking through the earth and breathing and alive, and they're walking through their days, but they are not awake.
They need to be shaken up. And so following that instruction, He advises deeper through the word to arise from the dead and to join the living in the spirit, and Christ shall give thee light. This season is one of renewal and walking fully in our divine assignments. God is restoring the missing time.
He's restoring the years.
He's restoring promise.
He is restoring divine identity.
He is showing us how to walk with him. He's giving us the desire to press into his presence and to press towards the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus. There is a press to rise in Him and to step into greater life and greater expression of our God-given assignments. God is so faithful.
So this reminder in this scripture to wake up, to look up, and to find our strength in Him is such a beautiful cornerstone of the life of every believer. We can look up. We can release the weight. We can release the doubts, insecurities, and fears. We can decide at any moment to pray to the one that created the universe and everything in it.
How fortunate are we to be able to walk before the Lord in prayer, be heard by him, and be reconciled back to him? These are things that were already paid. These are debts that the blood of Jesus has already paid. You have been bought with the price. Your soul is secure in the name of Jesus. It's already done. So this world is not our home, but while we're in it, we're to make it a beautiful demonstration.
We are to be the light on the hill from which comes our help. We are to be the light on the hill that people may see our good works and God will be glorified.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. - Matthew 5:16 KJV
So in this scripture, as we see the instruction to wake up and to arise from the dead, to be stirred up and to be shaken, is followed by the blessing that comes after waking. It says, “…and Christ shall give the light”. This light, this fire, this spirit that is alive within us, causes you to glow from the inside with joy and peace. It causes you to be attractive to opportunities and for doors to open because it's not that they see you, it's that they see the God in you.
They see the joy. They see that light on the hill. The favor of God is found in these moments of obedience to his grace and his glory. To arise and know that if we shake ourselves loose from our stupor, we shake ourselves loose from the chains of this life, and we arise from the dead things, the dead places, and the stagnant situations that seem to have a stronghold, then we will see that light of God light up in our hearts, light up in our souls, and light up our countenance.
It will be the light that begins to shift situations. It'll be the light of the Lord that breaks down walls and restores family. It'll be the light that brings us fully into our God-given Holy Spirit assignment, but we gotta look up.
Closing Devotional Prayer
My prayer for you: Father, in the name of Jesus, thank you so much. Thank you, God, for the grace and for the glory. Thank you for the mighty woman of God lifting her head. Thank you for the peace. Lord, you are good, and your mercy endures forever.
Break every wall, oh God. Break every chain. Allow us to see something different this morning, not by might, not by power, oh God, but by your spirit. Allow the outpouring of your spirit to go forth like never before, tearing down everything that's not like you, uprooting every stronghold, my God, casting down all imagination and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.
Lord, you are good, and your mercy endures forever. Thank you for the endurance. Thank you, oh God, it is not our will but your will be done. Thank you, Lord God, that you are walking with us. Bestirring us, oh God, stirring us up in our most holy faith.
I thank you for the woman of God saying yes to this devotional community, yes to going through and reading these free devotionals, yes to her next step in you, oh God. I thank you, Lord God, for the fire. I thank you for the promises of God, which are yes and amen. I thank you, Lord, and I pray in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
