Today’s Devotional Scripture: 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. - Colossians 3:15-17 KJV

Colossians shows us very clearly that there is a way to do a thing that is pleasing to God, a way to honor God in all that we do day in and day out. As we’re walking our walk with God, caring for our families, doing our job, and pursuing our careers, in all of that pursuing, there is something that we can do a little differently.

Because it’s not always what you do, it’s how you do it. It’s not just the thing you put your hands to, but it’s the intention in your heart that guides you. We see in Colossians, the evidence that the peace of God ruling in our hearts is a requirement; guarding our hearts for the issues of life come from it. That’s what the word tells us to do.

And in that guarding of our hearts, we are ensuring that all that we do is done in a way that honors God, that’s pleasing to Him, and that reflects His love back into the earth. We’re not doing this on our own. We’re not doing this in our own strength. We’re not doing this in our own right or for our own authority. None of that can be true.

This must be as unto the Lord.

As we approach all things in gratitude, allowing the word to soak into our hearts, Colossians shows us that whatever we do, we can do it in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. The thanksgiving in which we approach a task is just as important as the task. This is an instruction that can be difficult at times.
